The duration of locum tenens assignments varies according to each client’s needs and the provider’s availability. You could be asked to work for one day, several months, or to commit to an assignment for a year or more depending on the need. Locum tenens work allows us to accommodate to your schedule and availability.

This varies according to each facility’s process. Depending on the facility, credentialing can take from one week up to several months in some cases. Your recruiter will be able to give you an estimate on the length of time credentialing takes for the facility you are considering.

We require that providers sign a contract with us so we may represent you for any locum tenens jobs or permanent placement opportunities we share with you. This is how our firm can legally represent you and our clients. We follow the National Association of Locum Tenens Organizations (NALTO) and the National Association of Physician Recruiters (NAPR) ethical and practice guidelines, so you will be assured that we uphold the highest standards in the industry.

Locum Care maintains Medical Professional Liability coverage under the following terms:

  • Policy limits of liability are $1,000,000 each claim / $3,000,000 aggregate.
  • Type of policy is claims-made with the option to purchase a multi-year extended reporting tail/period.

In most cases our clients require Locum Care to use our own malpractice insurance with limits of 1,000,000/$3,000,000.

Locum Tenens providers are paid weekly. At the end of each week worked, providers fax a work log to our payroll department. Paychecks are processed during the next week and issued by the end of that week. Providers have the option of having a check mailed to them or may sign up for direct deposit.

If your locum tenens job is a “traveling” position then yes, travel and accommodations will be covered by Locum Care.

Locum Care will arrange your flight, hotel, and/or rental car before your locum tenens job begins. Locum Care’s travel coordinator will work with you to make your travel experience as pleasant as possible. Locum Care will send a locum tenens packet that includes a checklist of all the required information needed to get you credentialed for various locum tenens jobs. However, each facility will require its own application to grant privileges, so Locum Care will assist in filling out the facility’s application and forms for you.

Locum Care’s Credentialing Coordinator fills out as much of the facilities required forms as possible using your existing file. In general, we are able to complete most of the paperwork for you except for the yes/no questions, claims information, delineation of privileges and any signature pages.

Very little paperwork is required to conduct a permanent search. Locum Care will send a permanent packet that includes a checklist of the required information needed to screen you for consideration with any permanent needs our clients have.
